HOW RACISM WORKS

October 8, 2008

There has been quite a lot of chatter about racism, provoke recently about a man that was shot for wearing a Barack Obama shirt. See this.

How Racism Works:

What if John McCain were a former president of the Harvard Law Review?

What if Barack Obama finished fifth from the bottom of his graduating class?

What if McCain were still married to the first woman he said ‘I do’ to?

What if Obama were the candidate who left his first wife after she no longer
measured up to his standards?

What if Michelle Obama were a wife who not only became addicted to

painkillers, but also acquired them illegally through her charitable

organization?

What if Cindy McCain graduated from Harvard?

What if Obama were a member of the Keating-5? What if McCain were charismatic,
eloquent speaker?

If these questions reflected reality,

do you really believe the election numbers would be as close as they are?

This is what racism does. It covers up, rationalizes and minimizes
positive qualities in one candidate and emphasizes negative qualities
in another when there is a color difference.

You are The Boss… which team would you hire?

With America facing historic debt, 2 wars, stumbling health care,
a weakened dollar, all-time high prison population, mortgage crises,
bank foreclosures, etc.

Educational Background:

Obama:

Columbia University – B.A. Political Science with a Specialization in

International Relations.

Harvard – Juris Doctor (J.D.) Magna Cum Laude Attorney, top of class

Biden:

University of Delaware – B.A. in History and B.A. in Political Science.

Syracuse University College of Law – Juris Doctor (J.D.) Attorney

vs.

McCain: United States Naval Academy – Class rank: 894 of 899

Palin: Hawaii Pacific University – 1 semester
North Idaho College – 2 semesters – general study

University of Idaho – 2 semesters – journalism

Matanuska-Susitna College – 1 semester

University of Idaho – 3 semesters – B.A. in Journalism

Now, which team are you going to hire?

PS: What if Barack Obama had an unwed, pregnant teenage daughter?

First and foremost I appear to be 1st.

Second, I never knew Illseed had a blog. I thought he worked exclusively for AllHipHop.com

    Last but not least,
White people hate nothing more than being forced to stare into the mirror of history.

Awesome post. Kinda sums it up right there, doesn’t it?

And yet, it doesn’t matter, because you’re right: racism hides behind rationalization. I have heard from no less than five people (some have been quoted in the LA Times, even) that they won’t vote for Obama because he is a secret Muslim or that he has Muslim ties. Despite the fact that the people who say this actually know the name of the church he attended in Chicago and even the name of his former pastor, they hang on to this belief because they won’t give their real reason: Because he’s African-American.

While I’m an Obama supporter, I think he needs to be up by at least 10 points in a state before it can be considered “safe”. For all the talk about how we’re more enlightened now, when push comes to shove and people are all alone in the voting booth, I think the racism of the American people will rear its ugly head.

    that’s what I’m talking about !!!!
I’m sick of this stupid eye-blinking hockey mom and Johnny McLame’s napoleon complex…

Great post. I agree with all your points, especially the part about education. Obama has amazing credentials in that respect. The opposite end of the spectrum? Sarah Palin. I can’t believe someone with that educational record is “close” to the Vice Presidency. We’re not talking about any old job here, we’re talking about leading our country. I’d expect the person to be QUALIFIED. Let’s be honest…Obama is qualified and he’s the man for the job.

I can only commend him for staying ahead in the polls even in the face of racism and stereotypes.

I’m white, I’m female, and Sarah Palin scares the living SH*T out of me! There is no chance in any version of hell that I would ever vote for her, which kinda blows the McCain campaign theory that we little white women are so stupid that we only vote based on gender and color. I’m going with Obama. I don’t don’t care what his genetic background might be, HE HAS BRAINS! I know I can’t be the only white person in this country who can see the difference between the candidates. Please believe in the possibility that the right man for the job will get the job! Besides, you never can tell, there could be plenty of boldfaced racists out there who, when the curtain is closed in that tiny little booth might just surprise even themselves. And then tell all their friends they voted for the white guy to save face. Here’s hoping!

    good stuff @ Beck

lol and smh though at “And then tell all their friends they voted for the white guy to save face” that’s a mutha effin’ shame that pisses me off for so many reasons.

My father once told me that, you have to be 2 to 3 times better than your white counterpart, just to be on the same level, in corporate america.

It seems that even though Obama is more than prepared to handle the job…….. it dissapoints me that people are still knocking him. The man has his sh!t together and some people just can’t stand it!.

    I for Obamaa

Illseed, props on this one. Good blog. It amazes me that this is at all close. The disdain McCain has shown towards Obama in the last two weeks show where we are as a country. McCain reacts to Obama as if he were an unruly Negro who just doesn’t know his place. Referring to him as “that one” was the icing on the cake. Not to mention when he informed the young black male that he probably didn’t know who Freddi Mac and Fannie Mae were. It shows a lot about where his state of mind is.

Wow: Only in America could a white man with that track record run for President – against a black man who graduated from Columbia and Harvard.

WTF – I’m sorry, but McCain’s great claim to fame is that he was a POW for eight years. No wonder – he graduated in the bottom 5 of his Naval Academy. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure that one out! If you don’t pay attention in school, you are going to end up getting shot down over enemy territory.

Is anyone else a little worried that he’s so keen on “winning” in Iraq? And that almost half of this country believes that he can “win” a war.

He was a POW for 8 years. He didn’t win THAT war – Vietnam. So what makes him qualified to win this one? The fact that he was a POW? Fuuuuck.

It sounds like someone is trying to over-compensate to me.

I wish politics had anything to do with rationality. Unfortunately, that is not the case.

    Much Love, Mindy C

PS – to Marcus Stephens, McCain also didn’t reference Oliver as having any experience with home ownership. He referred home ownership to the man who spoke first about the financial crisis. Classic.

The Rednecks for Obama campaign is gaining momentum. Even us rednecks know the direction of the country isn’t right when we can’t afford to fill up our pickups and our favorite beer is made overseas.

We were at the Obama Rally in NC on Oct. 5. See this video

    Rednecks of the world unite!

@ J I thought it was jesse jackson that said “The burden of being black is that you have to be superior just to be equal. But the glory of it is that, once you achieve, you have achieved, indeed.” same difference I guess.

    wow indeed @ tiny

Yeah, titles mean a lot to people who have no sense. Like most of the “Doctors” who could’t fail since it was in African American studies, and they were black. Free pass. And anybody regardless of education who doesn’t understand that being a Governer is much more than being a Chicago politician who spent his whole life trying not to be white. I don’t want the guy to be President of America. Try Chicago, or Kenya. Take your race baiting idiots with you.

“WHAT IF” Sarah Palin had aborted her Down Syndrome baby and walked across the stage with only four children instead of five?

“WHAT IF” Barack Obama had taken legal pain killers instead of snorting illegal crack cocaine, would McCain voters still be RACISTS?

“WHAT IF” John McCain’s father had been a Communist Polygamist with five wives who believed in taxing 100% of Kenyan’s income, would McCain voters still be RACISTS?

“WHAT IF” both John McCain and Sarah Palin had become lawyers like Obama and Biden, would McCain voters still be RACISTS?

“WHAT IF” Barack Obama could speak without stuttering or could say more than three words without an “AH” between them, would McCain voters still be RACISTS?

“WHAT IF” John and Cindy McCain attended Reverend Wright’s Liberation Theology church for twenty-five years but never heard a word “GOD-DAMNING” America, would McCain voters still be RACISTS?

“WHAT IF” Michelle Obama, or anyone in the Obama family, had run a successful business of any kind, even a beer company, would McCain voters still be RACISTS?

“WHAT IF” Cindy McCain had graduated from Harvard, instead of staying home to run her family’s business, would McCain voters still be RACISTS?

“WHAT IF” Barack Obama had met the high physical and academic standards to enter the Naval Academy, and gone to war to fight Communists, would McCain voters still be RACISTS?

“WHAT IF” John McCain had launched his political career in the home of an unrepentant American terrorist who killed policemen and stomped on the American flag, would McCain voters still be RACISTS?

“WHAT IF” Barack Obama was NOT a “RACE BAITER,” would McCain voters still be RACISTS?
