DOES DR. DRE OWN AFTERMATH OR NOT?
I am hearing a crazy rumor that Dr. Dre doesn’t really own Aftermath Records. I’m not saying this is true, but I am hearing it. From what I understand, Dre owed Jimmy Iovine a great, great debt in the “aftermath” of Death Row Records. It was either from the loss of Death Row or the early flopping of Aftermath Records. Nevertheless, I heard Dre owed Jimmy a lot and Dre forked over Aftermath or a huge stake in it as payment. I heard Jimmy also reportedly owns Beats By Dre, the Monster-backed headsets. Obviously, Dre is getting paid, but we’re seeing no KINDA Detox. Man,I give up.

I think Jimmy Iovine owns it in the sense that he has the final say in anything released on Interscope. Aftermath is a really just boutique label, a branch of Interscope. It is an outlet for everything Dre touches as a producer. Remember the drama between Jimmy Iovine and Busta Rhymes, when Jimmy Iovine blocked the release of B.O.M.B.? It was supposed to come out on Aftermath. There were a lot of projects that Dre worked on that never saw the light of day. Famous artists have had their albums shelved due to intervention from Iovine.
Shit he might as well its part of interscope anyways so no matter what there all making lots of cash ,more then you and I anyways.!
Yeah I remember reading about Dre selling a stake of Aftermath to Interscope for $63m back in like 98-99 it was after the success of Eminems first album because if you remember aftermath didn’t have any other successful artist before that time
