Whew. That was a great movie. One must give it up to Heath Ledger:

There was a rumor that Jack Nicholson was hating on Heath, suggesting that HE was made for the role as Joker. Heath has proved definitively that he TOO was made for the role. The Dark Knight has earned $155.34 million to topple Spider-Man 3‘s record for best opening weekend at the box office. if your a child, then yes heath will be your definitive joker,
as for adults jacks will always be number one…joker was always a crazy bastard…but VERY well dressed and had charm and pretty much like a psycho gentlemen…and hack portrayed him to a T…
this new joker is dope too…very dope…and might be one of the best new villains out but still is a re-imagining of the original and while it’s all cool and shit…i still prefer jacks joker..
He really gave the performance of a lifetime.

Without Jack there is no Heath to follow. The only reason Ledger is getting all this praise is because he od’ed on sut-um.
i never leave comments on things like this but i really do agree that heath ledger killed this role he mad me want 2 be the joker instead of batman i was feelin him that much as the joker..
anybody tht says the only reason Heath is getting his is b/c he died off drugs hasnt seen the movie yet.

Heaths Joker is darker than Jacks, but then – the whole movie is much more darker and sinister.
Heath ledgers performance is breathtaking and will go down in history. Heaths joker is infectious.

Jack wins the fight. heath makes a good run but cannot be compared to jack. The 2 films are also so different, that no comparison can be made. good movie heath but bc of what u did some of these “Heath is a god/ Heath will win a post-humous oscar” are solidarity points. RIP. I watched the original right after I saw the Dark Knight just to make a comparison. I even watched the old movie from the 60s (idk why I bothered). Heath’s Joker is the best. Its a better performance, he made a better villain, and his is the most like The Joker in the comics
what are you clowns talking about. its a fake fictional movie role. anyone can play it if they can bring out the emotion and realness that the script/director wants. Just like when the next batman comes out and they have to replace Ledger, the next Joker will be just as good because of the director/script. this is a dumb argument….next

Well I am an adult…31 to be exact and don’t speak for me because IMO Heath is waaaaayyyy better than Jack. Heath’s Joker is the way that the Joker was intended to be. Do your research….it was not until the 50′s when censorship started to really take shape that they toned Joker way down. Jack N. take on the Joker was a combination of how the Joker was intended to be and the Joker Cesar Romero played on the TV show. Yeah the movies are different but when you look at the material and the actual performance you have to give it to Heath. A lot of you who commented probably haven’t even seen the film yet and are just basing it on the clip from above. Watch the movie because the clips don’t do the performance justice.

Heath Ledger’s performance in the Dark Knight, makes Jack Nicholson’s portrayal fo the Joker look silly. Anybody who has ever read a Batman comic knows that the Joker is more like Heath’s Joker than goofy ass Jack Nicholson.
Who cares who the better Joker was? I hope Jack Nicholson didn’t stoop to such pettiness…he’ll always have that crown for being the first MAJOR Joker. Heath, on the other hand, played a damn good Joker too. I actually like the difference in the two portrayals…hence making the Batman saga a legend.
I say both guys are official. But there isn’t a more official Batman than Michael Keaton (excuse me while I get on my petty shit LOL).
The new Joker is more violent but that’s all I will give him. Jack’s Joker had a touch of violence with lots of comedy, something that the Joker is supposed to be. Heath did a great job acting but what he did is just a normal Tuesday for Jack.
Here is my objective opinion. I am 32 years old. I saw the original Batman with Jack Nicholson when it came out and I just saw Dark Knight on sat. Heath Ledgers performace as the Joker was Absolutely brilliant!!!! There can be no comparison made with Jack’s rendition. Granted they were two very different scripts and two very different directions as far as the story of the Joker is concerned but given all those factors I feel Jack’s Joker lacked the incredible depth that Heath’s Joker displayed. The insanity in Jack’s rendition seemed somewhat superficial while in Heath’s rendition there seemed to be multiple layers of pain and dementia going on within the Joker.
I don’t think people are getting many points. heath is good because jack did it first. thats like saying bale is good because keaton did it first. If you really want to add to comparison add the director to the situation. These two movies took on two very different directions. This role is not one that mr ledger has played before but he made you a believer, that he was a sick and twisted guy. Jack has been the bad guy many times over wasn’t too far of a stretch. Then u have make-up. , just like new paint on walls, it makes the overall look way better.
kudos to the makers Dark Knight for their record breaking opening weekend… it’s no wonder there’s talk of another one coming out ASAP
Heath portrayed the joker from the actual comic book which is one crazy ass villain and doesn’t compare with the joker that is portrayed by jack both of the joker roles are dope but the stories are completely different but i got 2 say i grew up with jack’s joker but i got 2 say the new joker is up to the level of the movie and thats that
Heath Ledger’s portrayal of Joker is accurate. The Joker that beat Robin to death with a crowbar is the Joker that Heath played. Jack’s Joker was the Caesar Romero – goofy Joker of the 60′s. I expected the Joker to be a lunatic and Heath was lost in him. His performance along with Eckhart’s was excellent.

Both jokers were great but u have to understand that the two movies had a different tone to them…the dark night was a much darker movie so ledgers joker was more pysco then playfull like jacks was…If the old batman had a darker feel to it jacks joker would have been different as well.

After seeing that. I think that is also just the The Dark Knight is a much darker and better movie. I think NIcholson would have been just a great in this type of movie as well
I have been reading comics since i was 7, I am 33 now. I am sorry anybody who prefers Nicholson over Ledger’s Joker is insane. The Heath portrayed the Joker as he is portrayed in the comics. I remember watching Batman when it came out in 89 and I was disappointed. I thought Michael Keaton sucked as Batman/Bruce Wayne also. But the new movies have gotten it right.
Danny devito was well cast as the penguin lol.basically though never really liked them either
